Driving

When moving to Denmark, you may need to exchange your driver's license for a Danish one and in some cases, pass a new test in order to drive legally.

Driving

For more information (in Danish) on obtaining a driver's license, visit Odense.dk.

If you have a foreign driver's license and are residing in Denmark, you must make sure that your license is valid for driving in Denmark.

EU/EEA citizens

If your license is issued in an EU/EEA country or in the Faroe Islands, you do not need to exchange your driver's license for a Danish one. You may drive the same vehicles in Denmark as you are allowed to drive on your license in the country of issue. If you want to have your license exchanged to a Danish license, please find the list (in Danish) on what to bring on Odense.dk.

Non-EU/EEA citizens

If your license is issued in a non-EU/EEA country, please read the detailed guide about the usage and exchange of foreign driving licenses in Denmark on the website of the Danish Road Traffic Authority. You can also check the rules for driving in Denmark on the Life in Denmark website.
Please pay attention to the rules specifying how to exchange your foreign driver's license for a Danish one as well as important deadlines and required documentation. Fees apply, and you may need to take a driving test. On Odense.dk, you can find a checklist on what to bring when exchanging a non-EU/EEA license.
