Student life

Music, creative spaces, or just hanging out with new friends? Check out the resources for students in the City of Odense.

For more information for students living in Odense (in Danish), visit Odense Forever.

The student campuses in Odense have many activities and communities for students right on their premises. It is absolutely encouraged that you join in the activities at your school, but if you venture out from campus, you should know that the city is ready to welcome you and help you make your student life full of memorable and fulfilling experiences.

Music

For your music cravings, there are many venues to explore – some have more frequent concerts and events than others but decide for yourself and find your favorite hangout. Hulen is worth a visit – if not for the venue itself (which is great!) then for the way to get there. It feels like you are being granted access to a hidden secret, and Hulen does indeed mean ‘the cave’. Another gem that is not so hidden but very new is Krftwrk – it’s a music venue and practice space for local bands and has the potential to be a favorite among students.

Alternative (and often free!) opportunities to explore music in all its variations are in places like the Music Library where they host performances and music talks throughout the year. Among the performers are students from The Danish National Academy of Music. You can also attend concerts at the Academy itself, which is located at Odeon. Recordpusher on Overgade is a record store, but they have free concerts from time to time, and apparently, it’s a must-visit for some musicians when they perform in Odense, so you might bump into someone famous!

Communities

There is ample opportunity to get your creative juices flowing in Odense. If you are into photography, there’s an excellent community in The Hamster Journal which is a photographer collective dedicated to exploring human life and offers a space for inspiration, contemplation, and connection. Kulturmaskinen is the city’s creative hub with clay and fabric workshops. If you are more into woodwork or tech, you should visit O’Town or Repair Café which offer communities in a creative and activity-based environment.

Social

If you are looking for book clubs, language practice groups, community events, or opportunities to volunteer, look no further than Borgernes Hus where you will find International House Odense, the Volunteer Center, and the Main Library. Many social groups meet here, and there are talks, concerts, festivals, fairs, and social activities going on throughout the year. Another way to increase your social circle is to join a sports club or an organization, and you will find a list of possible organizations in our Belonging section. You may also benefit from becoming a volunteer. The Volunteer Center can guide you and help you find the right fit. Festivals around Odense and Funen are often in need of volunteers, and its a great way for students to score a 'free' ticket. Many social organizations also use volunteers, so check out the platform, Social kompas.
