Guideline for leaving Denmark

When you leave Denmark, there are a number of practical matters you must pay attention to. If you move from Denmark to your home country or to another country, you must report the relocation to the national register office (Folkeregister). You must also hand over your health insurance card.

When leaving

• Deregister your Danish address (self service with MitID* or by appointment with ICS South)
• Cut up your health insurance card (the yellow card) 
• Notify the Danish Tax Agency (Link to more information on SKAT's website)
• Take your pension with you
• Claim your holiday allowance
• Check your insurance policies
• Notify your bank (but consider keeping your account open for a while)
• GP and hospital: Bring your medical records
• Dentist: Bring your dental record

Your family and belongings

• Deregister your child from daycare facility, school, and after-school scheme
• Bring your personal belongings

*MitID: When leaving Denmark, it is still possible to keep your MitID. If you change your mobile number to a foreign number, you can update the number in your MitID app, on MitID.dk, via the MitID Support or at a Citizen Service Centre in Denmark. Read about updating your MitID information here. 

Did you forget to deregister before leaving Denmark?

If you didn't manage to deregister following the guidelines before leaving Denmark, and you no longer have your MitID, you need to call Citizen Service, and let them know that you have left the country. They will help you with the process.
